Planning and Upcoming Projects

The Impact Assessment Act came into effect on August 28, 2019.  To meet the requirements under this new act, the Halifax Port Authority is posting information about upcoming projects on the Canadian Impact Assessment Registry for 30 calendar days.  Members of the public are invited to review the project and post comments and feedback which the Halifax Port Authority will review and provide a notice of determination in a reasonable timeframe, including any mitigation measures considered in making the determination.

Halifax Port Authority's 50-Year Plan

The Halifax Port Authority 50-Year Plan looks at port planning to 2070 and the various benchmarks that will trigger expansion projects.

Our goal is to build smart, in a way that is financially and environmentally sustainable, and that complements our surrounding community. We are preparing now to ensure our assets are ready for where the industry is going, not just where it’s at currently. This includes our landside infrastructure, digital systems, and people. Containerized cargo and cruise will be the drivers of port-related growth over the next 50 years.
