Cunard Centre to cease operations as an event space
September 2, 2021, Halifax, Nova Scotia – The Cunard Centre in the Halifax Seaport District will no longer operate as an event space. This is due to challenges associated with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. RCR Hospitality Group, which has operated the Cunard Centre since its inception in 2006, will continue to work with the Halifax Port Authority and provide catering services for the Halifax Seaport District.
“COVID-19 has been a game-changer, and as a result, we have made the difficult decision to focus on the parts of the business that are recovering well which are the restaurants and catering,” said Robert Risley, Chairman and CEO, RCR Hospitality Group. “Creating exceptional dining experiences has always been our first passion and that has not changed. We will continue to focus on providing people with great meals and memorable experiences, and we will do that through our restaurants and our catering businesses.”
“RCR Hospitality Group has been a key part of the transformation of the Seaport District that started back in the mid 2000’s,” said Krista Dempsey, Vice President, Real Estate, Halifax Port Authority. “The relationship between RCR Hospitality Group and the Port of Halifax actually started in 1994 when RCR first served the very first ‘Ultimate Lobster Supper’ out of Pier 22. We understand this is a difficult business decision and we wish RCR Hospitality Group success along the road ahead.”
