June 6, 2018, Halifax, Nova Scotia – The Halifax Port Authority is collaborating with the Centre for Ocean Ventures & Entrepreneurship. Starting in July, the Halifax Port Authority (HPA) will staff a desk located at the COVE facility, putting HPA in direct contact with other ocean venture organizations and projects.

The Centre for Ocean Ventures & Entrepreneurship (COVE) is a collaborative facility for applied innovation in the ocean industry, located in a former Coast Guard facility on Halifax Harbour. This hub of activity is home to local and global ocean technology businesses, post-secondary institutions, researchers, and marine-based and service businesses that support the ocean sector. The COVE site features extensive marine facilities with two large, deep-water piers, office space, an incubator and space for shops and labs.

“Ports around the globe are rapidly moving toward significant innovation within their industry, from robotics to automatic tracking through block chain systems,” said Jim Hanlon, CEO of the Institute for Ocean Research Enterprise (IORE) which will manage COVE and its programming.  “The Halifax Port Authority is already deeply involved in this transition and we consider them to be one of our many innovation leaders in Nova Scotia and Atlantic Canada - a perfect tenant for COVE."
