Macdonald Bridge Re-decking Shipping Schedule Update
The Macdonald Bridge re-decking project has now completed deck replacements over the navigational transit channel. This concludes the second phase of the project. The final phase does not involve barge work in the navigational transit channel between the two Macdonald Bridge towers.
There will be no more scheduled ‘Red Zone’ and ‘Green Zone’ marine traffic notifications associated with the Big Lift project; navigational zone closures related to the Macdonald Bridge re-decking project have also concluded. The movable work station (traveler) movement notification requests (24 hours, 12 hours, 6 hours, 4 hours) and welding or ‘hot- work’ communication protocols remain in effect until further notice. Protocols for high air-draft vessels transiting the Halifax Narrows (as found in section 2.9 of the Port Practices and Procedures Manual) remain in effect.
Thank you for your continued understand and cooperation during this necessary infrastructure project. The Halifax Port Authority remains committed to working with all parties involved with the goal of maintaining commercial vessel activity while ensuring harbour safety. The Halifax Port Authority would particularly like to recognize Halifax Harbour Bridges, American Bridge Canada Company, Atlantic Pilotage Authority, Marine Communications and Traffic Services, and Atlantic Towing for all the hard work and dedication throughout this critical stage of the project.
