Safe Boating during SailGP in Halifax Harbour

May 29, 2024

The Halifax Port Authority (HPA) in collaboration with SailGP and Sail Nova Scotia are emphasizing safe boating during the upcoming international sailing competition that makes its Canadian debut in Halifax Harbour on May 31 and June 1-2.

The HPA, Canadian Coast Guard, and Halifax Regional Police are supporting SailGP by providing oversight and guidance for the safe movement of vessels adjacent to the race area during the event.

Everyone must observe safety limits and follow the rules on the water including Transport Canada, Collision Regulations and Port Regulations.

Boaters are asked to consult the Marine Safety Handbook, the Port’s new guide for safe boating, and the Port Information Guide in advance of the event. Boaters can visit the Port’s website for a digital copy of the handbook or visit the Port’s administration office at 1215 Marginal Road for printed copies.

The HPA is committed to promoting safe and effective use of the harbour by all. Let’s work together to make SailGP in Halifax a memorable and safe experience for everyone!
